Team Overview

This team is part of the Global Alts NAV Oversight team within Alternative Operations. The core focus of the team is to conduct detailed Controller function for the Funds managed by BlackRock Alternative Investments (BAI) before they are disseminated to our clients. The mandates and products we support cover the broad equity and bond markets, including private equity, real estate equity and debt, hedge funds of funds, single strategy hedge funds, long-only absolute return strategies, commodities and structured products. Our alternative investment capabilities are fully integrated into BlackRock, allowing investment teams to capitalize on the firm's considerable resources in areas such as risk management, product development, client service and operational support. Role Responsibility
  • Collaborate with Alternative Operations / BlackRock Alternative Investors (BAI) leadership teams to organize and implement plan to upgrade operating model for BAI funds demonstrating best practices and best in class technology
  • Interact with Portfolio Management teams, Operations, and Client Servicing / Reporting teams as needed to develop outstanding operating model across the Alts platform
  • Process Re-engineering - Review and audit processes to define risk areas and use self-help technology tools such as Blue Prism, Flexicapture, etc. to design solutions meant to provide risk mitigation and derive efficiencies.
  • Develop mechanism to monitor BAU and define and produce metrics to understand the risk quotient in the processes in terms of open breaks, exposure, P&L deviation, etc.
  • Leadership - Bring in the right level of seniority and provide thought leadership to the team in making them independent in BAU and increase ownership of the funds.
  • Career Development - Actively engage team members in career conversations and steer them in their career trajectory that allows them growth and personal skill enhancement leading to overall professional development.
  • Engage with Fund Admins to enhance their controls in order to reduce operation overheads and improve accuracy. Participate in health checks to evaluate operation framework to get the best service from the Admins.
  • Collaborate closely with external service providers, internal team members and other BlackRock groups to resolve operational issues, as identified.
  • Ensure the team's process documentation and controls are updated and reviewed regularly.

  • 15+ years' experience in consulting, portfolio management, operations, fund accounting or related areas with a heavy focus on private funds and private markets investments
  • Adept at leading a team of 50+ people with superior demonstration of people managerial skills.
  • A master's degree in Finance or Accounting is a requirement. CA or CPA is preferred.
  • A developed understanding of systems and data architecture is required
  • Exposure to eFront, Geneva, and/or Investran is preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly organized and able to adapt to variable deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Outstanding work ethic required along with demonstrated success in high performance or high demand environments.
  • Above all, the candidate must possess initiative and a willingness to contribute beyond the scope of one's role to achieve team and firm objectives.
