Business Unit Overview:

Our Aladdin Sustainability Lab (ASL) is responsible for building products and capabilities that are needed to quantify the impact of climate risk and other sustainability factors on financial assets. We also develop the infrastructure and software used for production of analytics as well as delivery of analytics content to portfolio and risk management professionals both within and outside BlackRock. Given the diversity of skills required to develop these products, the Lab brings together professionals from research and modeling, analytics, product management, design, and data engineering teams. As a member of the ASL you will be working with clients and partners to develop state of the art financial and econometric models to assess the financial impacts of climate change, climate policy and energy policy on a large number of asset classes - from corporate equity and fixed income, to mortgages, municipal bonds, sovereign debt and alternative investments. As climate risk and sustainable investing become an ever-increasing focus for investors, you will be developing the models and analytics to help drive a deeper understanding of risks and opportunities in this space.

Job Purpose/Background:

Primary job responsibilities include creating documentation, performance metrics, model surveillance and data QC tools. These efforts are meant to ensure that the ASL model suite represents a best-in-class platform for portfolio managers to assess how climate change and energy policies impact security and portfolio valuation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partnering with members of the ASL and other stakeholders to improve models and data infrastructure that deliver climate risk analytics
  • Communicating with stakeholders on model factors, forecasts, performance, strength and weakness, and risk/valuation implications
  • Back-testing, documentation, and validation of empirical models
  • Creation of Data QC and Model Surveillance tools to monitor model performance and analytic reliability

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree with focus on economics, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or climate science
  • 3-12 years of experience in using econometric and statistical techniques such as regression analysis, time series modeling, etc.
  • Experience with Model Governance, Risk, and Validation processes.
  • Fluency in programming packages like Python / R is vital along with an understanding of SQL and UNIX
  • Knowledge or experience with Climate Risk Modeling, Sustainability, or ESG is highly desirable
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
